The possibility is extremely remote that atheistic evolution explains the origin of life and diversity of species on our planet. Additionally, looking at life on our planet, it is somewhat obvious that there was a designer of some kind involved in the creation and development of organisms. The biological systems within organisms are too complex and interrelated to have formed on their own by random chance. Statistically it is simply not possible, and common sense tells us it is not plausible. So why do so many hold to this explanation of life on our planet, refusing to acknowledge that there is a creator?
We recently added a 15 year old daughter to our family via foster care, and are very excited about having her as a part of our family. She attends the School for the Blind (she is legally blind), and that is where my wife met her when she was the school nurse. Additionally, the cornea in my left eye was recently scratched and it has temporarily blurred my vision out of that eye. So I have been thinking about eyes lately, and how amazing they are, and the fact that there is not a one eyed creature out there, other than the tiny Copepods, and I am not sure I would call what they have an eye in the sense that we have eyes.
Thinking about eyes made me realize the implication that in the “magical and unrealistic” theory of atheistic evolution, when the eye “evolved” by “random chance”, it somehow managed to “evolve” in pairs. Not only did the eye have to “evolve” into the amazing organ that it is, but it had to evolve in tandem, or in the case of spiders, in octem (octem is not a word – I made it up to illustrate that spiders have eight eyes typically, and they had to magically evolve in such a way that all eight of them work together in octem). It is not like one eye “evolved”, and then the organism decided to add a second eye so that it could judge distances better, etc. The eye came into existence as a set that works together. And now that you mention it, so did arms, legs, ears, wings, hands, feet, and so on. There are no one eyed dinosaurs that I am aware of, for example, or one-legged or one-winged dinosaurs. This tandem-ness goes back a long way in the development of life on our planet. You would think something so obvious would bother people who hold to an atheistic evolutionary worldview.
By atheistic evolutionary worldview, I am referring to the current belief that life as we know it was created and evolved by the processes of random chance and natural selection. This worldview purports that the origin of life and the diversity of species happened by itself, with no creator, no designer, no other outside influence of any kind. This view is commonly held across the planet currently, and has become more of a dogma or a religion than a scientific theory in that it is not allowed to even be questioned these days (see the movie “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed”, for example). It claims to explain both the origin of life, from inorganic matter to living organisms, and the creation of the diversity of species of life on the planet (currently estimated at 8.7 million species of plants and animals). And as mentioned previously, it does not allow for there to be any intelligence behind the process – it must be mindless and unguided – it happened by itself, with no outside influence of any kind (a popular compromise that many Christians propose is theistic evolution, the idea that God directed the evolutionary process – this idea is summarily rejected by the “science police”).
In reality, no one strictly lives by an atheistic evolutionary worldview, for if they did they would make Genghis Kahn and Attila the Hun blush. Those who come close to living this way are usually referred to as criminals, thugs, thieves, murderers, dictators, despots, war mongers, and such, by the rest of society. To truly live as an atheistic evolutionist would be to live like a male lion, killing and taking whatever one wants, with total disregard for others, a disregard for human life, even a disregard for the members of one’s own family. Atheistic evolutionary philosophy simply does not work, and when man has attempted to follow it, the results are always tragic and disturbing, whether we are talking about an individual, a group, or an entire society.
In individuals it yields the criminally minded. In groups it forms criminal gangs. In societies it has created some of the great evil empires of history – most recently Nazi Germany, Soviet Russia, and communist China, for example. At all three levels, there is usually death involved. At the societal level the death toll is usually massive and can be in the millions and beyond, as atheistic evolutionary thought is worked out in reality in their country. Abortion, an activity that was birthed by the worldwide adoption of an atheistic evolutionary worldview, is said to be responsible for the death of over a billion people since it became common practice in the 1900’s, and is the leading cause of death in the world today, killing over 100 million per year. So why would so many people claim to believe in such a deadly worldview, a worldview that is so obviously ridiculous in regards to the possibility of atheistic evolution explaining the origin of life and development of all species…..a worldview that results in such disastrous and deadly consequences when truly followed by societies and nations?
Some say that the answer lies at the core of our being, where we are not so much embracing this ridiculous and evil worldview, but we are rejecting its opposite, namely the biblical Christian worldview, and Jesus Christ. While that might be true for some, the bulk of us would probably not fall into that category. I believe that the answer is that we have been blinded by the god of this world, and the bible supports this explanation in 2 Corinthians 3:1-6.
People do not see it because they have been blinded by the god of this world, satan. The fact that so many intelligent, sincere, and well-meaning people could believe such a ridiculous thing as atheistic evolution can actually be cited as evidence that satan exists. There is no other logical explanation for how such a preposterous theory could garner such widespread support worldwide. Just as the Nazi delusion, also satanically inspired, led an entire nation to do the terrible things they did during WW2, so the atheistic evolutionary worldview has been leading us to do the things happening in society and the world today, the worst of which being the rejection of God and the rejection of Biblical morality as the underpinning of a just society.
The Bible starts with the following sentence:
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1)
In the beginning, “God”. Not in the beginning, “time” or in the beginning, “random chance” or “mud” or “proteins and amino acids”. In the beginning, “GOD”. There was nothing but God in the beginning. Nothing. No matter, no time, no space, no light……no electrons, no neutrons, no protons, no neutrinos….it was pure nothing. Then God “created the heavens and the earth”. The Biblical account goes on to tell us that He went on to create the rest of the world as we know it.
There is a story that tells of a fictional day in the future when scientists have finally discovered the key to creating life, and they set up a competition with God, much like what Elijah did between God and Baal in 1 Kings chapter 18 (a fantastic story if you have never read it). In the story they gather together at a coliseum to compete. Each team is going to create a dog and a cat. A large pile of dirt is located in the center of the arena, to be used for making the dog and cat. The rules are read, and the judge says go. Both God and the teams of scientists head for the pile of dirt, and upon arriving at the massive mound of dirt, God turns to the scientists and asks, “What are you doing?” They respond, “We are getting some dirt to make our dog and cat with.” God answers back, “No you are not. You have to bring your own dirt. This is My dirt. Go make your own.”
Even if we could completely assemble a working dog or cat from a pile of dirt, where did the dirt come from. Can we make dirt from nothing, from emptiness, from the void and blackness of what was before the universe exploded into existence? And if we were able to build them, would we be able to bring the dog and cat to life, or would they just lie there, inanimate and un-alive, lifeless and dead? God is not only the source of the material universe; he is also the source of life. The life force that differentiates between the living and the dead has its source and being in Him. Apart from Him, nothing that has been made was made:
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”
“There came a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness, to testify about the Light, so that all might believe through him. He was not the Light, but he came to testify about the Light.”
“There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man. He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.” (John 1:1-13)
Jesus came to explain God to us. To clarify that God is real, that He did indeed make the heavens and the earth, and all that they contain. And most importantly, He came to tell us that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but be saved (John 3:16). If we receive Jesus, we become “children of God” we are told in the John 1 passage above. We only have to “believe in His name”. It is that simple, that easy. John bore witness of it. The apostles bore witness of it. Countless others have born witness of it since then. I am bearing witness of it right now to you. Jesus is the promised Messiah of old. He is the one that has come to save us from judgment of sin (a topic for another paper perhaps). He came that we might have eternal life. He came to bring light into the world. He came to remove the blindness from our eyes, that we may see.
One of the most amazing things that happens when we believe in Jesus, when we “receive Him”, when we simply “believe in His name” as it states in the John chapter 1 passage above, is that the blindness that is upon us courtesy of the god of this world, is removed, and we can see for the first time in our lives. The god of this world can no longer blind us. We can still chose to not see, but we now have a choice in the matter. We do not see perfectly (1 Corinthians 13:8-13), but we can see a little bit, enough to perhaps see that atheistic evolution is ridiculous, for example. If you are unable to see this, if you disagree with me on this point, then you may indeed be blinded by the god of this world currently, and I implore you to believe in Jesus, call upon His Name, and ask God to give you eyes to see. Ask the “True Light”, Jesus. To “enlighten” you. It is that simple. This is something that is worthy of much thought and contemplation on our part. Our eternal destiny hinges on this one thing, on this one man, Jesus, and who we decide for ourselves that He is. I urge you to receive Him, to receive sight.
Do you believe in His Name? Have you received Jesus? If not, why not? He died on your behalf, took the judgment for your sins. What more do you want God to do for you in order for you to believe? I am bearing witness to you today that He is real, and desires for you to believe and be born again “not by the will of the flesh or the will of man, but by God”.
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God.” (John 3:16-21)
Lord Jesus, I believe in You. I believe in Your name, and want to become a child of God as it says in Your word. I ask that the light of Jesus would come into my life and enlighten me. Give me eyes to see and ears to hear, that I may truly see and hear You. I pray that I would no longer be blinded by the god of this world. Set me free from this blindness. I receive You into my life, right now. I pray this in Jesus name, amen.
