Be a Playmaker

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

(Joshua 1:9)

Make a difference for good. May the world be a better place because you were born. That is what being a playmaker is all about – making a difference in all situations. It is about leading courageously, rejecting passivity and accepting responsibility. It is about living a life of service, about being in the game and not on the bench. It is about having the attitude of Christ – about denying oneself, taking up one’s cross, and following Jesus (Matt 16:24) every day. Study the lives of the leading characters in the Bible. They were all playmakers. Their lives mattered. They made a difference. Noah, Abraham, Joseph, Joshua, David, Daniel, the Apostles and Paul – they all were difference makers. Read their stories. And they weren’t perfect – you can’t score on every play. But you get back up and run the next play. And you keep going until you finish the game.  Be a playmaker. Make a difference for good. And remember, God is with you wherever you go, so be bold and courageous.

Growing up Jewish, the extent of my knowledge about Jesus and Christianity was limited to what was on the rock album "Jesus Christ Superstar". Becoming born again in college, that changed. Jesus showed up, and my life has never been the same. I thank God every day for bringing me into His kingdom, and write these blogs to remember what He has shown me, and to share them with my four sons and others. I owe much to several pastors who have strongly influenced me over the years, including Arnold Fruchtenbaum, Robert Lewis, John Ortberg, John Eldredge, and most recently Tim Keller and David Levine. Many of my blogs are the 'aha' moments that I have had over the years from listening to their sermons and reading their books, and I owe them a great debt of gratitude. My prayer for you is that you will be blessed by these writings, that God will become more real to you, and that your relationship with Him will become more profound as you grow in His grace.
