Flee Temptation

Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body.

(I Corinthians 6:18)

There is nothing that can rob you of your walk with God and your effectiveness as a Christian more than to fall into sin. Sin destroys, so flee from any temptation that comes your way. An interesting thing about temptation is that we are only tempted by things we are capable of doing and willing to do. So in a way, temptation reveals to us areas of our life where we need work spiritually. We need God to work on us in the areas where we are experiencing temptation. Until God has given you victory in these areas, flee, flee, flee. Run for your life. Run like your life depends on it. The sin may not kill you, but it may make you wish you were dead after it has born its fruit and destroyed your life. Trust me on this one. Just say no and walk away. Flee temptation – no sin, no matter how enjoyable at the time, is worth the pain and suffering it will cause you later. In the words of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, “Run away!”

Growing up Jewish, the extent of my knowledge about Jesus and Christianity was limited to what was on the rock album "Jesus Christ Superstar". Becoming born again in college, that changed. Jesus showed up, and my life has never been the same. I thank God every day for bringing me into His kingdom, and write these blogs to remember what He has shown me, and to share them with my four sons and others. I owe much to several pastors who have strongly influenced me over the years, including Arnold Fruchtenbaum, Robert Lewis, John Ortberg, John Eldredge, and most recently Tim Keller and David Levine. Many of my blogs are the 'aha' moments that I have had over the years from listening to their sermons and reading their books, and I owe them a great debt of gratitude. My prayer for you is that you will be blessed by these writings, that God will become more real to you, and that your relationship with Him will become more profound as you grow in His grace.
