The Road to Real Life Change

  1. The Word – God lovingly plants His word in our lives
    1. God custom tailors the placement of His word in each of us.
    2. Read the Bible.
    3. Scripture memorization.
    4. Meditation.
    5. Other sources (books, sermons, podcasts, study groups, etc.).
  1. Realize and accept that I cannot do this by myself
    1. I have tried X number of times to do this/stop this/change this/get there/etc. and I cannot do it.
    2. I accept the fact that I cannot do it myself.
    3. You may need accountability.
  1. The fork in the road – you have two choices
    1. You can choose to give in to it – it consumes and destroys your witness/marriage/work/life/friendships/etc.

      OR

    2. You can choose to continue to fight until help from above arrives.

  2. Hold your ground until God shows up
    1. Keep trying to make the change.
    2. Repent and try again – you may fail many times.
    3. Do not ever give up, no matter how many times you fail.
    4. Do not lose hope  – it may be awhile.
  1. Persistent prayer
    1. Pray specifically for the life-change that you are seeking.
    2. Pray regularly for the life-change that you are seeking.
    3. Ask others to pray for you, specifically for the life-change you are seeking.
    4. Pray until the life-change occurs or until God says stop praying and believe.
    5. Fasting may be necessary.
  1. God Shows up
    1. It can be immediate – wake up healed/delivered/different/changed/etc.
    2. It can be gradual over time – weeks/months/years.
    3. God will show up – hold your ground until he does.
  1. Real and permanent Life-change occurs
    1. It does not wear off.
    2. Do not choose to undo what God has done – don’t willingly go back.
    3. It will build your faith.
    4. Rejoice in Him.

Growing up Jewish, the extent of my knowledge about Jesus and Christianity was limited to what was on the rock album “Jesus Christ Superstar”. Becoming born again in college, that changed. Jesus showed up, and my life has never been the same. I thank God every day for bringing me into His kingdom, and write these blogs to remember what He has shown me, and to share them with my four sons and others. I owe much to several pastors who have strongly influenced me over the years, including Arnold Fruchtenbaum, Robert Lewis, John Ortberg, John Eldredge, Tim Keller, David Levine, and most recently Tim Mackie and Joby Martin. Many of my blogs are the ‘aha’ moments that I have had over the years from listening to their sermons and reading their books, and I owe them a great debt of gratitude. God has used them mightily in my life, and I feel that I am standing on the shoulders of giants. My prayer for you is that you will be blessed by these writings, that God will become more real to you, and that your relationship with Him will become deeper, more real, and more profound as you grow in His grace – that you will be a disciple of Jesus Christ all the days of your life. If we have never met, I look forward to meeting you in the Kingdom of God someday.
