The Gospel in Exodus: God of Your Fathers

The connection between fatherhood and our understanding of God is profound. It has been said that our relationship with God is impacted by our relationship with our earthly fathers, and that it can even affect our ability or inability to connect with God. God uses fatherhood throughout scripture to help us connect with Him.

Deuteronomy 6:4-9 – Forward

There is a passage in the Bible that Jews recite regularly. It includes the Sh’ma and the verses that follow. Some might say that it is one of the greatest passages of the Old Testament. Following is a series of short commentaries on this passage. I pray that it is a blessing to you.

Deuteronomy 6:4-9 – O Israel

If the Passover story is analogous to our lives, where do you find yourself today? Are you still in Egypt, a slave to sin? Or are you wandering in the wilderness, pining for your old life of sin? Or have you moved into the promised land, establishing the Kingdom of God in your life?

Deuteronomy 6:4-9 – One God

The first commandment in the Ten Commandments is “No other gods.”. While we don’t worship idols made of wood, stone, or metal, there are still many false gods that people serve with their life. We can make a god out of anything. But God says this is a bad idea, that He alone is God.

Deuteronomy 6:4-9 – These Words Shall Be Upon Your Heart

I have been asked more than once why Jesus had to die. As people, we want to know “why” about everything it seems. We begin asking our parents why we have to do what they say. We ask why at work, at school, in relationships, and so on. So why did Jesus have to die?

The Ten Commandments – Grateful Obedience

Most religions in the world have a set of requirements that must be met in order for us to reach the promised reward. Practices that must be done, rituals that must be performed, etc. But one religion gives the reward away freely, only requiring faith. so simple even a small child can do it.

The Ten Commandments – I Am Your God

All of us go thru life looking for meaning, hope, and happiness. The world gives us many ways to get the life we desire, but they do not deliver. Those who have made it to the top report that there is nothing there. But God shows us the way to true life.

The Gospel in Exodus: The Golden Calf

“Now when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people assembled about Aaron and said to him, “Come, make us a god who will go before us; as for this Moses, the man who brought us up from the land of Egypt, we do not know what has becomeContinue reading “The Gospel in Exodus: The Golden Calf”

The Gospel in Exodus: Lord of the Storm

Watching the news these days, I cannot help but notice how unsettling it is.  Putin is threatening to invade the Ukraine, global climate change continues to wreak havoc, the ocean appears to be dying because of pollution and overfishing, the poles are melting, the stock market is crashing every other day, the west has wildfiresContinue reading “The Gospel in Exodus: Lord of the Storm”

The Gospel in Exodus: The Man God Uses

When God calls Moses at the burning bush, Moses objects, giving reasons why he is not the one for this mission. We often do the same when God calls us to a mission. Who is the man God calls? What is God looking for in a man before He calls him to a mission? DoContinue reading “The Gospel in Exodus: The Man God Uses”
